Renewal
Renewal
The ancient Greeks valued the human body.
The ideal, was the gymnast; not a muscle man, but someone who had developed harmoniously both spiritually and physically, so that the body could serve entirely as an instrument of the spirit.
Greek education took place in the palaestra by means of gymnastics, and in the orchestra, the dancing places where youth performed rhythmic and ritual dances to music learning to express spiritual values through gesture.
Plato even declared that the state should be organized on the basis of music; for better the music, the better the state it would produce. For the arcadians music was an obligatory subject up to the age of 30.
Whether or not we can prove or agree upon the existence of soul, I think we can agree that music feels good. Weather the music of an aria a song that makes you want to dance and let down your hair or singing to your favorite tune on the radio on your way to work or joining a chorus and singing harmony with others.. music feels good.
Aboriginals sing their way across the land
As do birds.
The human body has its own song line.
It is both fragile and Fierce and can connect to anyone, anything, and anywhere.
Our attention moves rapidly across the globe in an age where we know about everything almost the moment it happens. We can watch it live we can watch it from our beds while it is happening in Thailand or Hawaii or Yeman or the Border places in our own country.
Once we tracked the Earth and land around us.
We knew what the plants and Stones, stars and Sky were telling us. Even animals offered a song when we really listened to their visitation.
It was pretty simple. The body its own compass connected to the elements.
When our attention travels so far beyond our immediate surroundings, here one moment, there another moment, rapidly moving across state lines, oceans and beyond into foreign lands, it has its ramifications upon the body and the harmony becomes disharmonious.
So, wherever you are, right now checking your phone or computer for the latest update
Stop. Breathe. Put the phone down.
Feel the body.
Upon the earth or upon the floor.
Scanning what is true and what you know.
Give the body it's radical soul song back. Feeling the body is a kind of song lending the body greater Harmony. It is a renewal song. It is poetry. It is soul nourishment.
Listen to Earth, to Sky, to sun, to Moon, to blade of glass, to Stone, to Bone, to memory and longing.
Listen to what you know
Linger in the places you donβt know.
Be curious.
Our songlines are calling us, weaving us home.
