May's Story

She is a barefooted mystery

I look forward to Storying with you again in May. What will May’s story be? Several possibilities are swirling, but my suspicion is she is running barefoot and wild through brambles, crowned with flowers, carrying a basket of flowers -mostly poppies.

She is a dirty-sole story. A grinning wild daughter whose middle name is Forest of Wonders. I’m not sure what she is doing in the forest. I’m tracking her, but she runs quickly ahead of me. She leads me to a spring. A craggy rock ledge. A peek-a-boo lady slipper. I ask her name, but she won’t tell me. She laughs and tells me she has no name. She has been nicknamed. She carries different possible cloaks for names. She is running towards a new name.

She is feisty. She wants to wrestle me in the woods. To show me how well she knows how to get out of a tricky situation. She likes tricks. And Trixies. She speaks the language of the nixie in the mill pond when the moon is in Pisces.

She teaches me how to listen to the secret of plants. She knows more about the woods than I know about the back of my hand.

Now I’m extremely curious to know what her story is? Where it brings us to? How it spells forth new myths through us. How it rewilds the soles, the soil, the soul.

What we need are stories for Rewilding. Stories for Returning. Stories for Seasoning the landscape of Interiority. Stories for Place. Stories that root us more deeply to place. Stories that teach us how to wrestle in the old ways, with the old questions, with the old stories.
